Smitten with Steampunk

Lately I've found myself completely intrigued with Steampunk.  Time that should be spent being productive has been used endlessly viewing the meticulous detail put into this lifestyle.  Overall I wouldn't necessarily subscribe to the clothing, but I am absolutely enamored with the women who go all out with their dedication.  One website in particular has really caught my eye; SteampunkGirls on Tumblr.  I think I have a soft spot for it because I love the different twists on the Victorian influenced styles, and for the vamp appeal of the burlesque touches.  The women featured on this website vary from those truly dedicated to those merely toying with the idea, but in any case, most of them are so aesthetically pleasing to me I had to share.

Fur; the only reason I enjoy cold weather.

I cannot wait for it to get cold around here!!  F/W is my favorite time of year for fashion, and one trend I'm definitely happy about this time around is fur.  It comes and goes throughout the decades, but it seems to be an accent on everything this season.  Some of my favorite pieces are from the Ralph Lauren RTW F/W 2011 line.  The whole collection is so clean and classic, which I personally can't get enough of.

If you can't tell, my favorite color is black... or favorite shade for those of you getting technical.  One item that is a total must for my fall wardrobe this year is a cape.  One of these two would be great and are both almost within my measly budget.  Now if only I could find one lined with (faux) fur in my price range, that would be perfect!

Suspenders... not just for Larry King.

Take notes ladies, because this is how to rock suspenders.  With a statement accessory like this you don't need much else to make the look complete.  Thanks for the shots Malorie; you are too cute for words!

Redneck Pool Party

All you need in Texas to have fun; beer, truck, tarp, water hose, and hot girls.

What I'm wearing; DKNY draped swimsuit, vintage glasses, and Marlo Adelle feather hairpiece.  Bonnie is holding my hand painted parasol I purchased at the International Festival in Houston in 2006.

Pimpin ain't easy!

A big thank you to Ben for the great photos!

And your little dog too.

Martie and her precious pup Charlie make me happy.  Just thought you should know.

Sunday Funday

This past Sunday I spent the evening downtown, and had an absolute blast.  I set out to take as many pictures as possible, but as the night continued, so did the drinking.  Unfortunately capturing the aesthetic of our 6th street adventure was a bit... umm, blurry, but looking back through the photos I was happy with the results.  I've been blessed to travel extensively these past few years and I have to say the 'Southern Hospitality' is something I love most about living in Texas.  It is a true graciousness that I haven't experienced anywhere else.  Seriously.  Nothing even close.  Most of the people I stopped caught my eye in one way or another, but the interaction with each was always positive and inviting.  So I want to thank all of these smiling faces for allowing me to share in their good time.  Cheers!

Rainy Day

As much as I love Malorie, I'm completely jealous that she got to spend some time in the rain.  My beautiful friend no longer lives in Austin, and even though I miss her terribly, I'm happy knowing that she's taking PA by storm.  Malorie, in my opinion, has always been someone that pulls off the effortless style better than the rest of us.  Even her umbrella is adorable.  <3

Heat Wave

My favorite summer staple item in Austin is by far the sundress.  Getting ready for the day is so easy!  My girlfriends would be happy to know I was ready to go today in only 10 minutes... threw on the dress and sandals, a little sunscreen, a few feathers in the hair,  and just a touch of silver jewelry for some shine.  Simple, clean, and just right for a day outside in this heat.

Double Take

I love that when I ramble on about how my friends and I have unique style we accidentally show up wearing our own black swan/white swan remake.   In our defense, our personal style preferences still shine through in the details.  Where I have soft, feminine tulle she wears a full, patterned silk.  Her awesome tights, which by the way have the prettiest heart detail at the garter, give her outfit an edge whereas my bare legs compliment the simplicity of my outfit.  And even the color choice of clean white against the striking black... picture perfect in my opinion.

And by far my favorite part ... the Dr. Martens.  Love!

One Hot Dog Please

Ok... I'm pretty sure when I was walking the streets of NY I never saw a hot dog vendor like this.  I'm just sayin...

Bombshell on a Break

My beautiful friend, Bonnie, is one of my most favorite people to look at.  When I picked her up last night I was smitten with every detail about her as she just stood in her driveway.  Although the lighting was horrible, I actually like the way it made her shine.  Which she does everyday regardless of the light!

Welcome!

Well after a year of playing with different ideas, I'm diving head first into a new direction.  I'm excited to share the things that make me happy with anyone who cares to listen.  This time around I plan to stay focused... but those who know me are aware of how quickly I change my mind.  Hopefully this blog will stay around a little longer than the last 3 I've had!  If you're curious about the blog, check out the 'What?' page.  If you're curious about me, check out the 'Who?' page.  And if you have any questions or want to collaborate feel free to contact me at thoughtsofjune@hotmail.com.

Cheers!
